wilg21st Annual Convention for WILG

Brad, Bo, Grant and Leah all attended the 21st annual convention for WILG (Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group). WILG is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to representing the interests of workers who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses, who need legal assistance.

The FECA (Federal Employees Compensation Act) section of WILG had its own breakout sessions at this year’s convention. This section of WILG focuses only on the rights for federal employees. Brad Harris, our senior attorney, is a CLE Chair for the FECA section and he served as the MC which involves facilitating speakers and topics of discussion. Brad also serves on the Board of Directors for WILG.

Topics Discussed

Chartered Federal Employee Benefit Consultants, Bo Harris and Grant Ostrander, were speakers this year. Bo spoke about financial considerations for federal employee retirement. He specifically focused on offset hurdles between OWCP (Office of Workers Compensation), Federal Disability Retirement, SSD (Social Security Disability), VA Disability, and EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). Grant focused on details of FEGLI (Federal Employee Group Life Insurance) and FEHB (Federal Employee Health Benefits) and how they pertain to Federal Workers Compensation and Federal Disability Retirement claims.

One cool aspect of this year’s convention is that two members of the Department of Labor were in attendance and spoke during their own session. Adam Calendrillo, Chief of the Branch of Regulations and Procedures and Catherine Carter, Counsel for Compensation from the Solicitor of Labor’s Office were the two speakers. Having these two there is important to the advancement in dealing with more federal agencies in the future.

We are very proud of the hard work Brad, Bo, Grant and Leah put into Harris Federal Law Firm every day. They are able to bring back the information they learned during the convention and further help federal workers.
