Frequently Asked Question

How much does Federal Disability Retirement pay?

# Back to all FAQs

The Federal Disability Retirement annuity payments are dependent on your High 3 Average.

Simply put, your High 3 average is the average of your highest 36 consecutive months of basic pay and is ultimately calculated by the OPM.

In many cases, federal employees find that their most recent 36 months of pay is their highest and can calculate and estimated annuity from that.

So, the first year you are on the benefit you will receive 60% of your High 3 average, and then every year until you reach the age of 62, you will receive 40% of your High 3 average.
