Frequently Asked Question

If approved for Federal Disability Retirement, how long will I be in interim status?

# Back to all FAQs

Once you are approved for Federal Disability Retirement, the OPM will start your interim payments while they finalize your application. While we see most finalizations happen within 4-6 months, there is no deadline for the OPM. Which can be incredibly frustrating. As our client we will still advocate on your behalf, however there are no legal avenues that we can utilize to encourage the OPM to move faster. The best approach is for you to stay consistent in your communication with the OPM to help move your finalization forward.
