Frequently Asked Question

What are federal employee benefits offsets?

# Back to all FAQs

Offsets refer to the way that benefits interact with one another if you are approved for more than one.

For instance, you can receive Federal Disability Retirement and SSDI at the same time but they will offset with each other because during the first year you are receiving the benefits simultaneously, your Federal Disability Retirement annuity will be reduced by 100% of your Social Security Disability payment.

The second year and beyond, your disability retirement annuity will be reduced by 60% of your Social Security Disability payment.

As it pertains to Federal Disability Retirement, there are many benefit interactions that you need to be aware of that can affect your income moving forward.
