Frequently Asked Question

When will I receive my first Federal Disability Retirement payment?

# Back to all FAQs

This is one of the most common questions we get… when will I get paid? It’s important to understand that your federal disability retirement payments will start out as interim payments. These payments are typically 80% of what the OPM expects your full annuity to be once it is finalized. These payments typically come within 30-55 days of being separated from your agency but can take longer depending on the OPM’s processing time.

Once your case is finalized and your annuity payments are calculated, you will begin receiving your full annuity payments along with any money you are owed by the OPM. Remember, your annuity payments are calculated at 60% of your high-3 average for this first year after approval, and 40% of your high-3 every year after.
