Frequently Asked Question

How long does Federal Disability Retirement last?

# Back to all FAQs

Federal Disability Retirement is intended to be a “Bridge to 62”. That means you’ll be able to stay on the Federal Disability Retirement benefit from your date of approval until age 62. Once you reach the age of 62 years old the benefit will automatically convert to regular retirement.

It’s important to remember that you will also receive creditable years of service during the time you are on the benefit. This can play a big part in your regular retirement calculation once you reach 62.
