What is FERS Disability Retirement?

Also known as “Federal Disability Retirement”. The FERS Federal Disability Retirement benefits allow federal employees to retire early due to an injury or disability that impairs their ability to perform at least one essential function of their job. The benefit also allows for continued health and life insurance with receiving monthly annuity payments, in addition to receiving additional creditable years of service which extends the time needed before retirement eligibility can be reached. They will also have the option to work in the private sector and receive up to 80% of their old positions’ current salary.
