Your Rights to Federal Disability Retirement

Upcoming Federal Employee Webinars

For over a decade the Harris Federal Law Firm has been helping federal employees with workers compensation claims, federal disability retirement cases and the resolution of employment disputes. We often see federal employees have received little training in what benefits they deserve and how those benefits interact. For example, very few are aware if they are entitled to a schedule award – or that they can’t receive regular workers’ compensation and a schedule award at the same time.

Our job is to assist them in receiving the fullest extent of their benefits – but the employee must have an opportunity to learn about their rights and options in order to make an educated decision on whether or not they want to pursue the benefits. Generally, few agencies allow federal employees administrative time to participate in training. It is also often cost prohibitive to participate in face-to-face training.

Therefore, we decided to present FREE federal employee webinars! The webinars provide a complementary alternative to face-to-face training, so you can learn more about federal disability retirement without leaving the comfort of your own home. Our webinars are also interactive, and allow you to ask questions along the way.

Please see our schedule below to register. Be sure to mark your calendar and tell your friends!

Federal Disability Retirement–Applying While Still Employed

One of the eligibility requirements for federal disability retirement is that your agency must certify that they are unable to accommodate your medical condition causing a deficiency in your current position AND that they have considered you for any vacant position at the same agency, same grade or pay level, and in the same commuting area, for which you are qualified. But what exactly does this mean?

In this webinar, we will discuss what qualifies as accommodation and look at how it can affect your chance of approval on your federal disability retirement claim.

Other topics that will be discussed are:
• Reassignment
• Modified Job Assignments
• How far must your agency go to accommodate you
• What qualifies as accommodation and what does not

What is Federal Disability Retirement Worth?

Federal Disability Retirement may sound like a regular retirement, just that you must have a disability to be eligible to receive it. And while the disability part of that is true, federal disability retirement is so much more valuable than that.

In this webinar, we will discuss how the value of receiving federal disability retirement benefits goes beyond simply getting an annuity each month. We will show you examples of the value of the benefit, how your years of creditable still accrue while on federal disability retirement, what your earnings potential in the private sector could be, and more.
